Description
This textbook describes the state-of-the-art of nuclear instrumentation. A detailed discussion is presented of the nuclear physics that a physician using radioactive materials should know. The principles of how the instruments work and the advanced electronics involved are explained. Important instruments are described including gas counters, liquid and solid scintillation detectors, and semiconductor detectors. Imaging devices are discussed in detail including circuit logic and performance testing to insure quality control. The emergence of the Anger camera is reviewed. A survey of new and unconventional imaging devices is provided. Later chapters include discussions on radiation dose estimates, radiation safety, statistics as related to nuclear medicine, quality control of counting instruments, imaging devices, and diagnostic agents. Separate abstracts have been prepared for individual chapters for inclusion in the Energy Data Base
