Ion acceleration in a high-current nonrelativistic electron beam injected into a neutral gas

  • 1. Engineering Physics Institute, Academy of Sciences of the USSR, Kharkov

Description

It is shown that nonrelativistic electron beams (EB) provide a convenient means for simulating the process of ion acceleration occurring during the injection of relativistic EB into a neutral gas. It is also found that the ion acceleration time is much smaller than the time over which the number of ions in the system decreases appreciably
