Description
The irradiations of copper oxide superconductors, with the swift heavy ions accelerated by GANIL, demonstrate that defects should be taken into account to understand the superconducting properties of these compounds. We have shown that the superconducting transition decreases rapidly with the ion fluence (the superconducting state is suppressed for 6 1012 3.5 GeV-Xelcm2), while the normal-state resistance increases exponentially. The rate of these modifications is enhanced when structural defects are present. However, the critical current increases at very low fluences
