Inspection Technologies for Waste Containers at Canadian Nuclear Laboratories - 19429
Creators
- 1. Canadian Nuclear Laboratories (Canada)
Description
To provide data for aging management programs, containers for different forms of nuclear waste, ranging from low-level waste to irradiated nuclear fuel, should be inspected. At Canadian Nuclear Laboratories, visual, ultrasonic, electromagnetic, and hybrid forms of non-destructive evaluation (NDE) are used for in situ inspection of carbon steel containers having various configurations, access issues, and material thickness. NDE applications tailored to the requirements of the task provide data for condition monitoring and operational assessments. The examples of fuel baskets stacked in concrete canisters and sheet metal containers arrayed in warehouses are illustrated here. (authors)
