Description
The phenomenon of the anomalous ionization, arising during the interaction of a plasma flow with the gas in a magnetic field transverse with respect to the plasma direction is studied. Recent experimental studies, confirming Alfven's hypothesis on the anomalous ionization, are reviewed and interpreted. The main characteristics of the phenomenon are summarized, its dependence on the experimental parameters is analyzed. According to Alfven the anomalous ionization plays an important role in the formation of solar systems. This picture must be refined using some new details of the anomalous ionization process.
