Fuel pin
Description
Purpose: To eliminate the risk of failure propagation in fuels upon rupture of a fuel can, by suppressing FP gas releasing rate in the gas plenum of a fuel pin. Constitution: A pressure-reducing element is disposed within a metal fuel can of a fuel pin for use in FBR reactors. The pressure-reducing element comprises a disc having an opening at the center and a fine tube connected to the opening, and the element is secured to a position at the boundary between the gas plenum in the fuel can and the charging portion of fuel pellets. If the melt destruction of the fuel pellets should occur, discharge of FP gases in the gas plenum is suppressed by the fine tube and the gas release time is controlled by the length of the fine tube.
