Structure of 182W and 184W, investigated by electron scattering
Description
Electron scattering cross sections for ground state rotational band members in 182W and 184W have been measured with incident energies ranging from 75 to 345 MeV for scattering at 900, and from 150 to 250 MeV for 450. The band members included were the 0+, 2+, 4+, and 6+ levels, and in 182W the 8+ level. The corresponding ground state and transition charge densities were found by parameterizing them as Fourier-Bessel series. Muonic X-ray data were included in the analysis of the ground and 2+ states. The results were compared to theoretical predictions from Hartree-Fock calculations using the SKM V and SKM VI interactions as well as the Reid Soft Core interaction in the Density Matrix Expansion (DME) approximation. To achieve realistic orderings of the Hartree-Fock single-particle energies, the spin-orbit potential strength needed to be adjusted. In general, the predicted cross sections were also markedly improved by this adjustment. While the rigid, axially symmetric, deformed intrinsic shape assumed in the theory is generally deemed unrealistic for these nuclides, agreement between experiment and theory was generally as good as for other, stiffly deformed rotators that have been studied by electron scattering
