Monitoring and control of large scale miscible floods with radioactive tracers

  • 1. Institute of Reservoir Studies, Ahmedabad (India)

Description

Radioactive isotopes have been useful in tracing the configuration of the gas displacement fronts in miscible recovery projects. Variations in sweep patterns with changing reservoir pressure gradients, source of gas breakthrough and indications of miscibility can be inferred from tracer responses. This paper discusses in brief the use of tritiated hydrocarbons for monitoring and controlling of miscible floods. It also discusses the modifications required for gas tracers. (author)
