Evidence of superconducting decoupling between Cu-O stacks in YBa2Cu3O7 crystals

Description
Detailed magnetic measurements of the parallel and perpendicular lower critical field of three single crystals of YBa2Cu3O7 show that this field suddenly goes to zero a few degrees below the superconducting critical temperature. The quenching of the critical field suggests a thermally induced loss of phase coherence between the stacks of Cu-O planes separated by non superconducting material. (Author)
