A review on perspective of spin coating technique towards profound electrochromism of tungsten oxide thin films

Description

Electrochromism involves a change in colour of certain materials when a reversible voltage is applied externally. Tungsten oxide (WO 3) has been endowed as one of the versatile electrochromic materials because of its several benefits, including high availability and affordable fabrication. Furthermore, it is appropriate to be produced as thin films or coatings, which is what makes it captivating for a variety of uses. In view of growing applicability of WO3 , there is a strong need to improvise its electrochromic attributes. Different fabrication techniques have been explored to fabricate WO3 thin films since their significance is growing in the present. The choice of fabrication technique plays an important role in modifying the electrochromism. One of the economical and easy way of thin film fabrication is spin coating. It is seen in the literature that spin coating technique has not been given enough focus for the fabrication of WO3 films. In this regard we have presented a comprehensive review on the perspective of spin coating technique for the fabrication of WO3 thin films towards profound electrochromism. Through this mini review, it is possible to have a quick overview of the work available on WO3 fabrication by spin coating and hence to improvise its applicability in electrochromism. (author)
