Upgradation of process and radiation instrumentation in Cirus, to mitigate the effects of ageing and obsolescence

  • 1. Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, Bombay (India). Reactor Services and Maintenance Division

Description

Effects of ageing degradation in selected components which are important to normal plant life as well as plant safety functions have been evaluated systematically in Cirus over the past few years. Ageing studies conducted in this manner have borne the fruit of arriving at an economically viable upgradation programme and preventive replacement of components and equipment, without affecting the plant availability. Ageing studies included, assessment of instrument performance, drifts in setting, wear in components, inspection of copper and PVC tubings, insulation resistance of cables and effects of corrosion products on impulse lines. Radiation detectors were tested for saturation characteristics, leakages, insulation degradation etc. and the signal conditioning electronics were tested for component healthiness, connector damage, soldering embrittlement in PCBs, etc. (author)
