Investigation and evaluation of the site for the small scale underground research tunnel
Description
The minimum requirements for the underground research tunnel are analyzed, and an area was selected as a candidate site for the small scale underground research tunnel. The surface investigation, the seismic survey and the electric resistivity survey were performed to investigate the distribution of geological stratum and the presence of fault, fracture and joint. Also the boring tests were carried out to investigate the characteristics and geotechnical properties of the stratum, and the distribution of host rock. In the site, the quality of rock is good, and the orientation of joint and fracture was positive to the stability of underground research tunnel. The ground water level was also stable. Therefore the candidate site is suitable to construct the underground research tunnel
