H IIc regions in NGC 628. I. Positions and sizes
Description
An identification atlas of 730 H ii regions in NGC 628 is presented, and positions in rectangular coordinates are given. Comparison is made with previous Hα studies of this galaxy and objects in common are cross-cataloged. Diameters are given for all H ii regions, and the size-frequency relation is compared with those published for NGC 2403 and M33. The relations for the intrinsically smaller Sc galaxies are very different from that for NGC 628, and this is attributed both to size of sample effects and to probable differences in the physical conditions for the largest H ii regions. Spatial and photometric properties of these objects are discussed in further papers in this series
