Production of charmed mesons in neutrino-hydrogen interactions in BEBC

Description

Production of charmed mesons has been observed in neutrino-hydrogen interactions in BEBC exposed to the CERN-SPS wide-band neutrino beam. Two events have been found each giving 3-constraint kinematical fits with production of only one strange particle. These are examples of ΔS=-ΔQ reactions and they give evidence for direct charm production. The cross section for inclusive D*+ production has been determined
