Silver sorption by kaolinite
Description
Study of silver uptake by kaolinite from aqueous silver nitrate solution at neutral pH and at 300C, using the radiotracer technique, is reported. The sorption measured under the stationary and agitated conditions of equilibration proceeded in conformity with the Freundlich equation. The Ag+ uptake was observed to exceed the normal cation exchange capacity of kaolinite in both instances. It was inferred from i.r. analysis that Ag+ sorption occurred at the interlayer and intralayer positions as well as on the basal planes of the kaolinite microcrystals. (author)
