Electrodeposition of neodymium on platinum electrode in molten chloride medium

  • 1. Instituto de Pesquisas Energeticas e Nucleares (IPEN), Sao Paulo, SP (Brazil). Coordenadoria de Engenharia e Ciencia dos Materiais

Description

The Nd/Nd3+ electrochemical behaviour has been studied at 700 deg C in molten NaCl-KCl medium (1:1) by means of cyclic voltametry with platinum and molybdenum work electrodes. The Nd3+ ions reduction over platinum occurs with a one step of three electrons. However, the obtained voltamogramms exhibits others oxi-reductions pics probably associated with platinum-neodymium intermetallics compounds formation. Over molybdenum electrode, the obtained voltammogram exhibits only one oxi-reduction pic. (author)
