Measurement of thermal, epithermal and fast neutron flux in the IEA-R1 reactor by the foil activation method
Description
Experimental and theoretical details of the foil activation method applied to neutrons flux measurements at the IEA-R1 reactor are presented. The thermal - and epithermal - neutron flux were determined form activation measurements of gold, cobalt and manganese foils; and for the fast neutron flux determination, aluminum, iron and nickel foils were used. The measurements of the activity induced in the metal foils were performed using a Ge-Li gamma spectrometry system. In each energy range of the reactor neutron spectrum, the agreement among the experimental flux values obtained using the three kind of materials, indicates the consistency of the theoretical approach and of the nuclear parameters selected. Apresentam-se os pormenores da teoria e do procedimento experimental do metodo de ativacao de folhas aplicado a determinacao do fluxo de neutrons no reator IEA-R1. Os fluxos de neutrons termicos e epitermicos foram determinados a partir da medida das atividades induzidas em folha de ouro, cobalto e manganes. O fluxo de neutrons rapidos foi obtido usando-se o 27Al, 56Fe, e 58Ni, que apresentam reacoes de limiar nessa regiao. As atividades foram medidas com um sistema de espectrometria gama que utiliza um detector Ge-Li. Em cada regiao de energia do espectro de neutrons do reator, vefificou-se a consistencia do tratamento teorico e da selecao dos parametros utilizados, da concordancia existente entre os valores experimentais dos fluxos obtidos usando-se folhas de tres materiais diferentes.
