Molecular mechanism of aging and late effects of radiation

  • 1. Kyoto Univ. (Japan)

Description

Shortening of life span and carcinogenesis, which are believed to occur as late effects of radiation, seem to be closely related to natural aging process of individuals. Molecular changes associated with aging process in mice and their relationship to late effects of radiation are reviewed from the viewpoint of the following questions. Is it possible to accumulate DNA damage? Is the primary arrangement of DNA changed with aging? Is repair of DNA base changed with aging? Is genetic expression changed? (Namekawa, K.)
