Manufacturing process of scintillation plates with large surfaces without polishing
Description
The process for the manufacture of styrene-based scintillation plates of any size without additional polishing of the large planes is described. The plates are made by block polymerization of styrene pre-polymer in glass moulds in a nitrogen atmosphere. The process provides for separate polymerization of each plate, which ensures efficient heat removal in polymerization. This reduces the polydispersity of the polymer base and improves the transparency to intrinsic radiation. The light output is 70-90% of that of a stylbene single crystal, the de-excitation time depends on the class of the luminescent additives. The process yields scintillation plates with identical properties and reduces machining expenditures
