The proton total cross section on 12C and the α-particle model
Description
The proton total cross section on 12C has been calculated in the energy range 0.15 to 1 GeV using the α-particle model and Glauber multiple scattering theory. Taking the experimental p-4He amplitude as the input information it is found that the experimental total cross section data are nicely reproduced. The work also sheds light on the likely causes for the failure of the independent-particle model calculation of the total cross section. (Auth.)
