Proceedings of the CERI North American natural gas conference and Calgary energy show 2004 : prospects for prices. CD-ROM ed.
Description
This conference offered insight on major issues facing the natural gas industry as it enters a period where traditional producing areas, such as the Western Canada Sedimentary Basin, are maturing at a time when demand for natural gas continues to grow. The impact that higher gas prices will have on the stability of the natural gas industry in Canada was also examined, along with the prospects for gas production from traditional areas and the physical and financial challenges of maintaining production in North America. Potential opportunities and impacts of new supplies from frontier regions were discussed, with particular reference to northern gas, unconventional gas, coalbed methane, east coast offshore gas projects, and liquefied natural gas imports. Presentations examined gas consumption issues, fuel switching, gas in oil sands, and changing expectations for gas-fired electric power generation. The 7 sessions of the conference were entitled: (1) gas for the future, major sources of incremental gas supply, (2) bridging the gap, view of interim gas supply, (3) bearing the pain, natural gas consumption at higher prices, (4) developments in North American power markets, the engine of gas demand growth, (5) physical challenges to supply growth, (6) financial challenges to supply growth, and, (7) living with price volatility. Environmental and socio-economic challenges were described as being some of the risk factors that the industry must face. The conference featured 22 presentations of which 8 were indexed separately for inclusion in the database. tabs., figs
