Determination of Neutron Fermi Age for Stable and Radioactive Waste Materials using SSNTD (LR-115) Technique

Description

The Neutron Fermi Age, τ, and the neutron slowing down density, q (r, τ), have been measured for natural and radioactive waste materials by using SSNTD 'LR-115 type2' technique through using BN1 material which convert the neutron particle into alpha particle. This technique was never used before in the study of Fermi Age, it used the first two cases, Aluminum material which is stable and the second as radioactive waste. These materials are exposed to a plane 241Am/Be neutron source with recent activity 38 mCi. The measurements of the Fermi Age were found to be τ290±20 cm2 for stable Aluminum and τ=213±17 cm2 for radioactive waste material (irradiated Aluminum). The results obtained in this technique is explained as being able to get the results of the mistakes are acceptable.Neutron slowing down density was also calculated depending on the recent experimental τ value and distance. The process of irradiation the radioactive waste by neutron flux is considered one of the methods for treatment the radioactive waste
