Direct measurements of luminescence quantum yield from the metastable state sup(4)Fsub(3/2) of Nd3+ in Y3Al5O12 crystals

Description
Direct measurements were made of eta (quantum output of luminescence) from the metastable state sup(4)Fsub(3/2) of the ion Nd 3+ in a crystal of Y3Al5O12 The results show that in a crystal of Y3Al5O12, quantum output eta = 1 (accuracy of determination of 5%) and confirm that the radiation life of the excited state of sup(4)Fsub(3/2) of Nd3+ is tau0=255+-5 microsec., sigmasub(p)=(7.7+-0.6).10-19cm2,which agrees completely with existing ideas of the mechanisms of non-radiative relaxation.
