Analysis of a vertical jet in wave-current system
Description
The growing awareness of environmental pollution in hydraulic and coastal engineering and the attempts to check it, have made the study of jets discharging into wave-current system of great practical interest. This paper presents the results of an experimental investigation on a vertical jet implinges in wave-current system which carried out in a wave channel at the University College of Swansea, Oceanography Department, England. Measurements of velocity fluctuation statistics for the submerged vertical jet at the point of interaction with the wave-current system were reported using the Laser-Doppler Anemometer. The nonuniformities of the velocity profiles, relative velocity and shear velocity scales due to the stability, mixing and diffusion of the submerged circular turbulent water jet in the wave-current system are discussed. It has possible within the available data obtained to develop practically useful correlations for the hydrodynamic characteristics of the system using the previous results of circular free jets in coflowing streams as a guide
