Use of Virgin Coconut Oil (VCO) as Stabilizer for Radiation Vulcanized Natural Rubber Latex (RVNRL) Preparation

Description
The effects of virgin coconut oil (VCO) through saponification was carried out in the preparation of Radiation Vulcanized Natural Rubber Latex (RVNRL) formulation. RVNRL used potassium laurite (RVNRLKL) considered as control sample was compared to RVNRL used VCO in phr 0.04, 0.06 and 0.08. RVNRL with VCO 0.06 showed highest stability on mechanical stability test. The viscosity test found that RVNRL with VCO 0.06 and VCO 0.08 showed more stable for long term storage monitoring. Mechanical characterization through tensile test reveal the tensile strength increase and the modulus M500 and M700 decrease with the increase of phr VCO. The capability of VCO as stabilizer to improve RVNRL stability are discussed. (author)
