A numerical study of particle losses from deep traps

  • 1. Yale Univ., New Haven, CT (USA)

Description

The bounce-averaged linearized Fokker-Planck equation for the particle flux out of a single deep electrostatic-magnetic trap is computed numerically, and the results are compared to previous analytic approximate expressions, in the cases of an empty loss region and a Maxwellian species of passing particles in the loss region. In the two types of traps considered, a parabolic well and a TMX-like well, qualitative agreement between the numerical results and the analytic approximate expressions is found. (author)
