Description

Complete text of publication follows. New poly(vinylidene fluoride) based multi-functional (electroconductive, bioactive and catalytic) nano-biowebs were prepared. In a typical approach, a mixture of poly(vinylidene fluoride) and silica was electrospun to fabricate PVdF-silica nanofibers (PVdF-Si NFs). Gold nanoseed particles were then loaded into the PVdF-Si NFs by gamma radiation induced reduction method. The morphology of PVdF-Si NFs/Au was examined by field emission scanning electron microscopy. The presence of Au seed particles on the surface of PVdF-Si NFs/Au was confirmed by EDAX measurements. The crystal structure of the formed Au particles and the formation of Si were confirmed by X-ray diffraction analysis. The thermal stability of the PVdF-Si NFs/Au was evaluated by thermogravimetry. The multifunctionalities (electroconductive, bioactive and catalytic) of the nanowebs were evaluated by cyclic voltammetry and the cyt c immobilized onto nano-bioweb (PVdF-Si NFs/Au/cyt c NBW) exhibited amperometric response to of nitrite ions.
