Advances in microradiocarbon dating and the direct tracing of environmental carbon

Description
The new radiocarbon dating technique of atom counting (AMS), when extended to its natural microgram limit through high quality, clean and efficient target preparation, serves as a major new tool for source apportionment of individual classes of atmospheric carbon compounds. Direct tracing results for the impact of fossil and biogenic (especially biomass burning) pollution are unambigous, and they can be used for validating (or invalidating) other multivariate methods of source apportionment.
