Dynamics of the nearby multiple stellar systems. The Castor system (ADS 6175)

  • 1. Leningradskij Gosudarstvennyj Univ., Leningrad (USSR)

Description

Statistical analysis of the astrometrical and astrophysical data for the components of the multiple stellar system Castor (ADS 6175) was used to determined the probability of physical connection among components and the dynamical state of this system. The uncertainties of the observational data are taken into account. It is shown that in this visual triple star system the components have a certain gravitational and dynamical connection. The relative orbit of close components AB is elliptical. The probability that the motion of the distant star C in relation to the centre of mass AB is elliptical and the Castor system is stable is 40.7%. The probability that the orbit of C is hyperbolic is 59.1%. The probability that the Castor system may be unstable non-hierarchical is 0.2%
