Phase transitions and electron-induced rearrangemnt in hydrogen and deuterium films adsorbed on Mo(011)

Description
The atomic structure of hydrogen and deuterium films adsorbed on the (011) face of Mo is investigated by the slow electron diffraction technique in a broad range of temperature (5-300 K). The effect of slow electrons on the degrees of perfectness of films in a nonequilibrium state (frozen at 5 K) is investigated. The order degree of structures (films annealed preliminary) decreases under electron irradiation. The disordering induced by the electrons does not go to the end. The regularities of the electron-induced rearragements are studied. The mechanism of electron-induced rearragments is discussed on the basis of an hypothesis that the adsorbed atoms are excites by the electrons into long-lived over-barrier states (above the barrier of surface migration)e level as that at which the electron-induced disordering stops
