Description

In the late 80s and early 90s of last century, computed tomography enters the practice of evaluation of many conditions and diseases of the urinary system, and after 2000. it became one of the mainstream methods in uroradiology. The aim of this review is to present the indications for MDCT Urography, based on a number of studies and analysts of advantages and benefits of new CT modality the investigations of which continues to evolve. The higher radiation dose has been one of the most important driving factors in optimization of CTU techniques and in selecting justified indications. Reducing the radiation dose is associated with the image quality and it must be optimized keeping the diagnostic values of the study. The image quality is determined by the kVp, the mA, exposure time, collimation/reconstructed slice thickness, reconstruction algorithm or filter, Helical Pitch/Table speed, Helical Interpolation Algorithm. Several clinical researches concluded that MDCT Urography is detailed examination of the urinary tract with no special preparation of the patients. The study should be performed only in the cases where is clinically required. Radiation dose is an important issue. It is crucial to reduce the radiation dose resting on the principles of ALARA but without affecting the diagnostic information values of the investigations. Key words: CT. MDCT Urography. Radiation Dose
