Differential ranges of fission products by a coulometric method

  • 1. Indian Inst. of Tech., Kanpur. Dept. of Chemistry

Description

Differential ranges of 89Sr, 95Zr and 140Ba in copper have been measured by a Coulometric technique. A thin target of 235U was irradiated with thermal neutrons in a reactor and the fission products, after collimation, penetrated a copper foil. Known thicknesses of copper were anodically dissolved in an electrolytic bath from which the desired fission products were radio-chemically isolated and estimated by counting the radioactivity. From a plot of the activity against the thickness of the copper dissolved out, the most probable ranges were obtained which are in excellent agreement with the theoretically calculated values.
