Evaluation of Workers' Radiation Safety at Nuclear Research Center Serpong in 1994-1999 (PELITA VI)

Monitoring of external and internal radiation dose of radiation worker at Nuclear Research Center in Serpong during 1994-1999 has been done routinely. External radiation dose monitoring was carried out using TLD badge and internal radiation dose monitoring using in-vitro method by urine analysis and in-vivo method by counting the workers with Whole Body Counter. The results of external dose indicated that skin dose equivalent (DEK) received by workers during 1994-1999 were in the range of 0.11 mSv - 174.30 mSv and the whole body dose equivalent (DEST) were 0.05 mSv - 33.38 mSv. Annual average of DEK was 2.06 mSv and DEST was 1.03 mSv. Results of internal radiation dose monitoring indicated that Committed Dose (DTO) were in the range of 0 - 57.08 mSv and Committed Effective Dose (DTE) were 0 - 4.53 mSv. Annual average of DTO was 2.62 mSv and DTE was 0.18 mSv. Distribution of receiving dose indicated that 98.42 % and 99.75 % of workers received DEK and DEST in the dose range 0 - 12 mSv and 96.4 % and 100 % of workers received DTO and DTE in the dose range of 0 - 12 mSv. Collective dose received by all PPTN Serpong radiation workers was 0.669 Man Sv, which give a probability for fatal cancer of 5.65 x 10^-12. This evaluation results indicated that nuclear activities in BATAN Serpong is carried out safely, in accordance with the recommended regulations. (author)
