Identity of the principal characteristics of fast H and He isotopes
Description
Experimental data are reported on the production of H and He isotopes with E/sub kin/> or =25 MeV/nucleon in disintegration of emulsion nuclei by pions and protons with respective momenta of 60 and 200 GeV/c. For the fast p, d, t, and He particles the following characteristics are observed to be identical: the energy and momentum distributions, the angular distributions, the energy dependence of the production cross section, and the nature of the emission as a function of the size of the star. It is suggested that the emission of singly and doubly charged particles results primarily from an elastic collision of high-energy nucleons of the nucleus with complex quasifree substructures
