Extraction of uranium from two different host rocks of limestone and granite, Gogi, Karnataka, India

Uranium extraction studies have been carried out on brecciated uraniferous limestone and granite rocks of Bhima basin, Gogi area, Gulburga district, Karnataka. A common flow sheet is necessary to treat these two types of host rocks together due to the occurrence of uranium. Both alkaline and acid methods were tested on these two different type host rocks.Alkaine leaching is the obvious choice for the brecciated limestone, which consumes enormous amounts of acid, but the granite host rock can be treated with acid, which is kinetic effective.A common method is adopted by chosing alkaline leaching to treat the two types of host rock and the studies carried out are presented in this paper.
