Description

The ionosphere physics in high latitude areas is first reviewed: ionization processes, plasma circulation in the ionized environment of the Earth and particularly the matter exchange coupling between ionosphere and magnetosphere. Models and equations that govern these relations are presented and their approximations are discussed. Two modelling techniques are presented, the Flux Corrected Transport (FCT) method and the line method. Results are compared for two behaviour types: quasi-stationary and dynamical states
