Description
Ionization of the K-shell by proton impact is considered using a simple model atomic potential. It is shown that differences in cross sections obtained using the atomic and the Coulomb potentials occur mainly through the normalization of the final state wavefunctions. The normalization factor is determined by the Jost function for elastic scattering and the typical Ramsauer-Townsend features of elastic scattering are clearly exhibited in the ionization cross sections.
