Nuclear reactions with polarized Li and Na ions
Description
Nuclear reactions induced by polarized lithium and sodium are reviewed, summarizing the results obtained up to now. 1) From elastic scattering various components of the spin dependent optical potential can be extracted, including terms up to tensorial rank 3. In particular, the role of projectile deformation and the coupling to inelastic channels is strongly exposed. Various aspects of the theoretical folding procedures can be experimentally tested using polarization data. 2) From the elastic and inelastic scattering at low energies: apart from strong coupling effects, quantities entering the Coulomb excitation models, such as quadrupole moments Qs, B(E2) and the shape polarizability tensors τ. 3) From one-neutron transfer reactions: it could be studied how they influence the spin-dependent part of the optical potential and the structure of nuclear states involved. 4) From heavy ion fusion processes in low energy region: one can study the role of strong coupling in the behaviour of the excitation functions. At higher energies one can study the correctness of some important classical models of heavy ion collisions like the tangential friction model. (Nogami, K.)
