Excess of events at very high Q2 at HERA

  • 1. Deutsches Elektronen-Synchrotron (DESY), Hamburg (Germany)

Description

Deep-inelastic scattering events produced in positron-proton collisions with a transferred square momentum Q2 up to 41000 GeV2 have been studied, for the first time, at HERA. For Q2>15000 GeV2 both H1 and ZEUS see an excess of events. Using the data sample collected during the years 1994 to 1996, H1 observes 12 NC events while 4.71±0.76 events are expected and ZEUS has found two events above Q2>35000 GeV2 where 0.145 ± 0.013 events are expected. The CC analysis in the same Q2 range is also presented. (orig.)
