Potential market for natural gas along the Saint John River Valley

Description

The potential market for natural gas in the Saint John River Valley between Edmundston and Saint John, New Brunswick was examined by a survey of the industrial and large institutional sectors. Information requested included type of fuel used, annual fuel consumption, efficiencies and rated capacities of boilers, and forecast changes in fuel consumption by 1995 and beyond. Load factors were either estimated or assumed to be equivalent to typical values for the sector or institution involved. A second phase of the survey involved energy users in the same two sectors located in close proximity to two potential pipeline routes between the Quebec/New Brunswick border and the New Brunswick/Nova Scotia border. The results show the volume of natural gas equivalent, in terms of energy, to the sum of heavy and light oil, propane, coal, and hog fuel consumed per year. A total market potential of 452 million m3/y and 532.4 million m3/y was identified in the first and second phases of the survey respectively. 1 fig., 5 tabs
