Preliminary safety assessment of the first Brazilian repository

  • 1. Brazilian Nuclear Energy Commission, Rio de Janeiro (Brazil). Radiological Protection and Nuclear Safety Directorate

Description

The paper describes the initial steps of the safety assessment report for the first Brazilian near surface repository. The repository is to be constructed for the disposal of the 137Cs radioactive waste generated during the decontamination work performed by the Brazilian Nuclear Energy Commission in Goionia in connection with the radiological accident in 1987 involving teletherapy equipment. The intent of the paper is to simulate the first stage of the actual safety assessment for the Goiania repository. All the properties are considered to be isotropic and homogeneous.
