Alpha-cluster states in 16O built on an excited core

Description
Excitation functions and α-particle angular distributions have been studied in the inelastic scattering 12C(α,α2)12C* in the incident α-particle energy interval 17.0--22.7 MeV. At energies in the vicinity of 18.5, 19.4, and 21.6 MeV resonances are observed whose angular momenta and parities turn out to be respectively 5-, 4+, and 5-. The reduced widths for decay in the α2 channel calculated for the 5- states are respectively 4.51 and 0.1, which indicates that apparently these are α-cluster states built on the second excited states of the 12C nucleus
