Influence of 1.3 MeV 4He post-bombardment on depth profiles of 35 keV 3He ions implanted into Nb and Au

  • 1. Atomic Energy of Canada Ltd., Chalk River, Ontario. Chalk River Nuclear Labs.

Description

The depth profiles of 3He implanted at 35 keV into polycrystalline gold and niobium have been measured via the 3He(n, 1H)3H thermal neutron reaction. The specimens were implanted at room temperature with fluences up to 6x10173He ionsxcm-2. Post-bombardment of the samples with 1.3 MeV 4He ions induced double-peaked 3He profiles correlated with a rapid gas release for Au. No such double-peaked effect was observed for Nb, although gas release occurred. (orig.)
