Possibilitics of intervening radiology

The development and the current state are outlined of intervening radiology. In this method, various therapeutical operations are carried out under radiodiagnostic control, including catheterizations, the introduction of pace makers and electrodes, biopsy sampling, etc. Using special catheters, the arterial lumen can be widened or the blood supply can be stopped to a pathological site, an occlusion can be removed, etc. Under angiography control, drugs can be administered locally or foreign bodies removed from blood circulation. In many cases, intervening radiology replaces surgical operations and extends the possibilities of surgeons and internal specialists. (M.D.) 5 figs
