Status of the energy amplifier concept

Creators

Description

The Energy Amplifier (EA), an accelerator-driven subcritical assembly with thorium as the breeding fuel, is described. The EA offers several advantages over conventional reactors (safety, small actinide production), and may also be used for transmuting plutonium and long-lived actinide waste. The radiotoxic properties of the EA is discussed and compared to other fuel cycles. 25 refs., 3 figs
