Description
Total cross sections for H+ and He+ impact excitation of atomic hydrogen to the 2p level have been measured for projectile energies between 70 and 700 keV. The cross sections for proton impact above 200 keV are in very good agreement with results of the first Born approximation. He+ and H+ impact - when compared on an equal velocity scale - result within the error bars of 12% in equal cross section values. (orig.)
