Regulatory aspects of in-service inspection of research reactors
Description
In-service inspection is very important for operation of the research reactor in a safe manner. These periodic inspections reveal any degradation taking place in items important to safety so that remedial actions can be taken before these can lead to failures. For in-service inspections, to be meaningful, base line data have to be established through pre-service inspection. The examinations necessary for both PSI and ISI shall be carried out through approved procedures using established methods by qualified personnel. Adequacy of records and their retrievability are also essential. This ensures the structural integrity of components essential for the safe operation of the reactor. The Regulatory Body ensures by regular monitoring that the ISI programme is established at the reactor and implemented satisfactorily
