Description
Two sediment cores from the Santander Bay (Spain) has been studied for dating purposes. The cores are cut off every centimeter and measured by a germanium low background gamma spectrometry system for determining the Pb-210 and the associate Ra-226 concentrations. Age profiles and sedimentation rates of the cores were calculated from the constant rate of supply model. Age profiles of the sediment constructed from the radionuclide measurements were used to determine historical trends of organic compounds and contaminant metals. The sedimentation rates calculated are increasing along the century with values from 0.08 cm/y to 0.30 cm/y. The evolution of sedimentation rates was in good agreement with the filling periods happened the last 100 years
