Experimental study of the reactions 12C(γ,π+)12B and 13C(γ,π-)13N for pions of about 70 MeV
Description
The experiments were performed with an electron beam according to the end point method, and the photoproduction cross sections were determined using the theory of the virtual photon spectrum. For the reaction 12C(γ,π+)12B it was possible by means of a fitting procedure to determine from the measured pion spectra the cross sections for the pion production into the ground state as well into into excited levels of 12B. The separation of the negatively charged pions from the reaction 13C(γ,π-)13Nsub(G.S.) from the 104- to 105-fold higher electron background could not completely be reached. The data however allow an estimation of the cross sections for the ground state transition and the statement of an upper limit. Together with the determined cross sections for the ground state transition of 12C however it can be concluded that the study of both reactions cannot confirm the predicted precursor effects. Die Experimente wurden mit einem Elektronenstrahl nach der Endpunktsmethode durchgefuehrt und die Photoproduktionswirkungsquerschnitte unter Benutzung der Theorie des virtuellen Photonenspektrums ermittelt. Fuer die Reaktion 12C(γ,π+)12B war es moeglich, mit Hilfe eines Fitverfahrens aus den gemessenen Pionspektren die Wirkungsquerschnitte fuer die Pionproduktion in den Grundzustand sowie in angeregte Niveaus von 12B zu bestimmen. Die Trennung der negativ geladenen Pionen aus der Reaktion 13C(γ,πsup(i))13Nsub(G.S.) von dem 104 bis 105 fach hoeheren Elektronenuntergrund konnte nicht vollstaendig erreicht werden. Die Daten erlauben dennoch eine Abschaetzung der Wirkungsquerschnitte fuer den Grundzustandsuebergang und die Angabe einer oberen Grenze. Zusammen mit den ermittelten Wirkungsquerschnitten fuer den Grundzustandsuebergang an 12C kann jedoch festgestellt werden, dass die Untersuchung der beiden Reaktionen die vorhergesagten Precursor-Effekte nicht bestaetigen.
