Description
Advances in the development of long-length BSCCO HTS composite wire are reviewed. Powder-in-tube processing was used to produce 19- and 133-filament tapes up to 300 m long. Critical current densities of 12,500 A/cm2 and 10,500 A/cm2 (77 K and self-field, 10-11-Ω·cm criteria) were achieved for the 19-filament wires in 100- and 300-m lengths, respectively. Significantly, these results demonstrate that short-length processing results can be extended to long lengths with little or no loss of performance. Performance uniformity over 100-m length was good, giving n-values up to 22. Common microstructural defects are highlighted and the use of these wires in practical demonstration applications is also discussed
